Next Archive MAM

Stichting Nederlands Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid

The Netherlands Institute of Sound and Vision (hereinafter referred to as ‘NISV’) was founded to guarantee sustainable preservation of the Dutch audio-visual heritage and to make it accessible for as many users as possible. The collection of NISV comprises more than 800 000 hours of television, radio, music, and film, but also a significant amount of related non-audio visual material. The amount of digital media assets in the collection grows every day and at a substantial rate.
External users can search, view, select, license and order digital media assets and internal users manage the collection and all related ingest, metadata annotation and export workflows. NISV operates an extensive asset management IT platform that supports these activities. Currently this platform consists of a number of tailor made systems and standard systems customised to NISV specification. It is difficult to manage and update, it is not future proof, it has duplication of functionality and data and the running costs are not sustainable.
With the Next Archive project NISV wishes to optimise the situation by replacing the existing platform in 2015 with one integrated commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) Media Asset Management system (hereafter referred to as MAM). NISV has decided to tender the procurement, implementation and migration of this MAM.
The general scope of the assignment is that the MAM must be implemented on NISV hardware and integrated with the NISV HSM storage system and that existing metadata and workflows (like input, ordering, export) must be migrated.
