SURFnet transatlantic lambdas

SURFnet

SURFnet regularly acquires transatlantic lambdas (wavelengths) to connect the NetherLight Open Lightpath Exchange to various locations in North-America, both for its own use and on behalf of its partners in the research and education networking arena. Therefore, SURFnet invites potential suppliers of transatlantic lambdas to participate in this tender procedure.
At this time, SURFnet has six operational 10 Gigabit lambdas between NetherLight (Amsterdam) and North-America (MAN LAN and StarLight). In the future, SURFnet expects to acquire further 10 Gigabit lambdas but also higher speed lambdas (at 40 Gigabit/sec, and possibly 100 Gigabit/sec).
This tender procedure aims at the conclusion of framework agreements for the provision of transatlantic lambdas with at least three (3) Contractors (no maximum number). Through this tender procedure, SURFnet wishes to conclude framework agreements with all suitable providers. For that reason, the tender procedure is based on exclusion criteria and minimum requirements, and there is no limit to the number of Contractors who may be awarded a framework agreement. The actual provision of transatlantic lambdas will be awarded in mini competitions.
The framework agreements have an initial term of four (4) years, with the option for SURFnet to extend these framework agreements with two (2) times one (1) year.
