The MESA+ Institute will invest in a new UHV evaporator deposition system in which metals can be deposited on flag style sample plates, and in which samples can be etched before deposition in a separate chamber. It should be possible to dock a user-made UHV suitcase on the loadlock for in-situ sample transfer. Applications: The equipment will be used to deposit a variety of metals and/or superconductors on top of different electronic materials, ranging from memristive oxide devices to topological insulator devices and superconducting quantum devices. We outline a few of the key processes that the system should fulfil below: Deposition of normal metals. Deposition of superconductors. Shadow evaporation by making use of sample orientation (i.e. rotation) and deposition angle. Etching of native oxides present on sample surface.
