The reason for the European tender is the need to update the flow cytometry equipment of the FCF. Part of the current equipment is considerably outdated and, as a consequence, does not attain the performance required today and is at the end of its technical life. The flow cytometers that are procured as part of this public tender concern:
(a) 3 standard ≥20-25-color flow cytometers; including a maintenance agreement that can be extended for at least 10 years, which includes preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance and spare parts;

To accommodate the need to increase its quantitative and qualitative capacity, the FCF seeks to purchase 3 new standard flow cytometers and 2 new high-end flow cytometers. As the FCF has a large number of users (550+) from many different LUMC departments and university departments, it is important to select instruments that allow efficient deployment and use, are intuitive and easy to handle (user friendly), allow fast and easy switching between many different types of applications, are mutually interchangeable (back-up), and require limited instruction time for both hardware and for software. In addition, the new instruments need to be up-to-date and need to provide advanced cutting-edge features that will put the LUMC in the front of the field. This includes the application of advanced flow cytometry for top-reference patient care, such as immune monitoring as companion diagnostics for guiding novel immunotherapies.

As an example, in case of monitoring >250 leukocyte subsets it should be possible to reduce the number of tubes/stainings from 4 to 5 tubes to approximately 2 tubes, with increased accuracy for leukocyte subset definition. Therefore, the new flow cytometers should be able to acquire at least 25 000 cells per second. In addition, they should be able to detect at least 20-25 colors simultaneously (standard flow cytometers), preferably ≥30-35 colors (high-end flow cytometers).
