In the Allan Lab, we are continuously developing novel scanning tunneling microscopy techniques to study quantum materials from different angles. The main goal is electron spin resonance on the atomic scale. Our current methods would benefit greatly from lower, that is, milli Kelvin temperatures. Therefore, alongside the three microscopes currently operating in our lab, we would like to build a fourth, UHV milli Kelvin scanning tunneling microscope.

Therefore, alongside the three microscopes currently operating in our lab, we would like to build a fourth, UHV milli Kelvin scanning tunneling microscope.
Since scanning tunneling microscopes are extremely prone to vibrations and because we are mainly interested in conducting spectroscopic measurements with extremely high tunnel junction conductance, the insert needs to be as stiff as possible and the cryogenics need to be as mechanically quiet as possible in order to create a vibration free environment where a microscope can probe quantum materials with atomic precision.
Since scanning tunneling microscopes are extremely prone to vibrations and because we are mainly interested in conducting spectroscopic measurements with extremely high tunnel junction conductance, the insert needs to be as stiff as possible and the cryogenics need to be as mechanically quiet as possible in order to create a vibration free environment where a microscope can probe quantum materials with atomic precision.
We require full warranty and corrective and preventive maintenance for a period of two years after acceptance.
