European Tender for the design, engineering, licensing, manufacturing, delivery and maintenance of a B(U) fissile package for the transport of fissile radioactive waste
NRG is about to replace its transport package for fissile radioactive waste (i.a. spent fuel from High Flux Reactor and from the Mo-99 production) from the middle of 2019 onwards. The new transport Package replaces the CASTOR® MTR-2 cask which is currently used to transport the fissile radioactive waste from NRG Petten to the intermediate storage facility HABOG at COVRA, Nieuwdorp.
It should be mentioned that the HABOG storage facility was built to process High Level Waste (HLW) transported by means of the CASTOR® MTR-2 cask. The transport Package should therefore be designed to comply with the constraints (dimensionally and otherwise) of the HABOG facility.
In addition, the Package should comply with latest IAEA Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material (currently SSR-6). In addition the Supplier is responsible for obtaining a Certificate of Approval from an EU Competent Authority, as well as obtaining a validation (from the Dutch Competent Authority) for use of the Package in the Netherlands. The contractor takes full responsibility for the entire (turn-key) implementation of the project, including design and fully functional operation within the licence issued for the Package(s) for a minimum period of 12 (twelve) years.
The detailed characteristics and specifications of the new fissile Package will be provided to the selected candidates during the second phase of this Tendering Procedure.
